Gem grade Aquamarine from Malawi – 10 g

This 10 g selection consists of carefully selected natural Aquamarine rough in gem grade quality from Malawi. The pieces show attractive pale blue to blue-green colours and often display good transparency to translucency with a vitreous lustre. Particularly clear areas and the characteristic fresh Aquamarine colour give the material a high-quality appearance. The individual pieces vary in size, shape and colour intensity and may show natural inclusions, growth features and fracture surfaces. Due to the selected quality, this material is especially suitable for demanding collectors as well as for high-quality cutting, faceting and lapidary work. 

Geology & Origin

Aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of the mineral Beryl. Its characteristic colour is mainly caused by iron within the crystal structure. In Malawi, Aquamarine occurs in granitic pegmatites, where slow cooling can produce larger and sometimes very clear Beryl material. Transparent to well-translucent areas with an even Aquamarine colour are especially valued as rough material for gemstone cutting.
