Antique Carbide Mining Lamp from Silverton, Colorado in the USA. 1 unique Piece.

Authentic carbide mining lamp from the historic ore mining district of Silverton, Colorado (USA). This classic helmet or belt lamp dates from the early to mid-20th century and was operated with acetylene – a widely used lighting method in North American mines before electric lamps became standard. The sturdy brass body, reflector, spark igniter and mounting clip are typical features of this lamp type. Visible signs of use emphasize its actual deployment underground and give the piece its authentic historical character.

Geology & origin

The Silverton area in the San Juan Mountains was a major center of lead, zinc and silver mining in Colorado for many decades. Thousands of miners worked in harsh underground conditions – with carbide lamps like this one serving as their vital source of light. Today, such objects are rare originals of North American industrial history and highly sought-after collectibles with museum-level value.
