Andradite (Var. Topazolite) crystals from Cherbadung, Binntal, Switzerland– micromount as unique piece
Several intensely lustrous crystals of the rare Andradite variety Topazolite are clearly visible on this attractive specimen. The greenish-yellow coloration, combined with the typical isometric crystal form and glassy luster, makes this a highly aesthetic example. The crystals originate from Cherbadung in the Binntal area, one of the classic Alpine localities for garnet varieties.
Topazolite is a transparent, rare variety of Andradite with high iron and calcium content. Specimens with such well-developed crystals are known from only a few Alpine occurrences.
Geology & Origin:
Cherbadung in the Binntal (Valais, Switzerland) is one of the most famous Alpine localities for garnet minerals. Topazolite forms in contact metamorphic zones of limestone-rich rocks, typically in association with Diopside, Epidote, and Vesuvianite. The combination of color, luster, and crystal habit makes specimens of this quality highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
