Embedded blue Andalusite (xls) and Pyrophyllite crystals from Ottre, Ardennes, Belgium– miniature specimen as unique piece

This specimen features a fibrous aggregate of light-colored Pyrophyllite with embedded blue Andalusite crystals in a massive matrix. The crystals are not freestanding but clearly visible, characterized by natural intergrowth and fine texture. The Pyrophyllite forms silky, radiating zones, while the blue Andalusite areas create a striking color contrast within the piece.

Andalusite and Pyrophyllite occur together in metamorphic rocks and are rarely found in this combination from Belgium. This specimen is especially suitable for systematic collections focused on regional or metamorphic mineral assemblages.

Geology & Origin:

Ottre, located in the Belgian Ardennes, is a classic locality for metamorphic rocks rich in aluminosilicate minerals. Andalusite forms there under medium-grade metamorphic conditions, commonly associated with Pyrophyllite, Quartz, and Muscovite. The coexistence of both minerals on a hand specimen clearly reflects the complex metamorphic evolution of this geological zone.
