Amarillite and Botryogen from Tierra Amarilla, Chile– micromount as unique piece

This micromount features a fine-grained formation of Amarillite and Botryogen in warm yellow to reddish-brown tones. The minerals are tightly intergrown and form a velvety, matte surface. Color zones range from ochre yellow to orange and olive green, giving the specimen a natural and vibrant appearance.

Amarillite is a rare borate sulfate mineral that typically forms in the oxidized zones of boron deposits. In paragenesis with Botryogen, another secondary sulfate, it creates attractive specimens of scientific relevance. Both minerals are sensitive to humidity and are only found at a few localities worldwide.

Geology & Origin:

Tierra Amarilla in Chile’s Atacama region is known for its complex hydrothermal systems and wide variety of secondary minerals. The deposit hosts not only borate and sulfate species but also an exceptional diversity of rare parageneses. This combination makes finds from the area highly sought after for systematic mineral collections.
