Aluminocopiapite crystals from the Champion Mine, CA, USA– micromount as unique piece

This micromount features intensely yellow-orange Aluminocopiapite crystals formed on porous host rock. The fine crystals appear mostly as acicular to granular aggregates, clustered in small cavities and across the surface. Their vibrant color and distinct structure make this piece an attractive addition to systematic collections.

Aluminocopiapite belongs to the group of iron-rich sulfates and forms in highly oxidized, sulfur-bearing deposits. It typically develops under extremely acidic conditions, often as a secondary mineral during the weathering of sulfide ores.

Geology & Origin:

The Champion Mine in California, USA, is known for producing a variety of secondary sulfate minerals formed under extreme environmental conditions. Aluminium-rich species like Aluminiumcopiapite are especially rare, forming only under very specific geochemical settings. Specimens from this locality are highly regarded among scientifically focused collections.
