This lot contains 100 g of Pyroxmangite and Rhodonite from the well-known Sunny Side Mine in Silverton, Colorado, USA. At first glance, the material appears rather inconspicuous, but when broken open, it reveals an intense pink to rose-colored interior that highlights the aesthetic beauty of these manganese-rich silicates. The pieces are well suited for collectors, educational purposes, or further processing such as cutting and polishing.
Geology & Origin
Pyroxmangite and Rhodonite are manganese silicates typically found in metamorphosed manganese deposits. In the Sunny Side Mine, they formed through hydrothermal activity within manganese-rich ore veins and often occur together with Quartz, Calcite, and other associated minerals. This classic locality in Colorado is well known for its fine and vividly colored manganese silicates, valued for their structure and distinctive coloration.
