Geology & Origin
The Navajún Pyrite deposit in the La Rioja region is famous for its exceptionally regular pyrite cubes, formed within clay-rich sedimentary rocks. Formation took place under low-temperature conditions, when iron- and sulfur-bearing solutions slowly penetrated fine-grained sediments and precipitated Pyrite. Navajún is regarded internationally as a classic locality for this type of Pyrite formation and has been valued by both science and collectors for decades.
