Nifontovite crystals from the Mina Rey y Reina, Charcas, Mexico; 50 g

This position comprises 50 g of nifontovite from the Mina Rey y Reina near Charcas, Mexico. The material is predominantly offered as raw material and consists of a mixture of fine crystalline nifontovite crystals, crystal fragments, associated matrix, and finer debris. Within the unsorted material, clearly developed colorless to whitish crystals can be found and selectively separated through careful sorting. This position is particularly suited for collectors who enjoy working with raw material and uncovering the potential of the specimens through their own selection process.

Geology & Origin

The Mina Rey y Reina is regarded as a classic locality for secondary uranium minerals in the Charcas area of Mexico. Nifontovite forms there as a rare secondary mineral within the oxidation zone of uranium-bearing deposits, crystallizing from uranium-rich solutions in the presence of carbonates. The locality is known for producing a wide range of finely crystallized uranium minerals and yields both selectively prepared collector specimens and raw material from which high-quality crystals can be obtained through careful processing.
