Nifontovite crystals from the Mina Rey y Reina, Charcas, Mexico. One micromount

This micromount features selected nifontovite crystals from the Mina Rey y Reina near Charcas, Mexico. The crystals are colorless to whitish, transparent to slightly translucent, and display a clearly developed elongated prismatic crystal habit. The material has been carefully selected and is largely free of disturbing matrix, allowing the characteristic features of this rare uranium mineral to be clearly observed. This MM is well suited for systematic micromount collections and as a high-quality reference specimen.

Geology & Origin

The Mina Rey y Reina is regarded as a classic locality for secondary uranium minerals in the Charcas area of Mexico. Nifontovite forms there as a rare secondary mineral within the oxidation zone of uranium-bearing deposits, crystallizing from uranium-rich solutions in the presence of carbonates. The locality is known for producing a wide range of finely crystallized uranium minerals and yields both selectively prepared collector specimens and raw material from which high-quality crystals can be obtained through careful processing.

Picture shows sample! Item may differ in size, shape and colour from the sample images.

The crystals may vary in number, size, and crystal habit within the micromount box; each MM represents an individual example of this mineral.

This table is for general information and orientation, although the sizes of the stones may vary. In addition, this specification is handled differently from region to region.
