mixed UV minerals; Crestmore, California, USA; 1 kg
mixed UV minerals from Crestmore, Kalifornien, USA – 1 kg
This lot contains a selection of UV-active minerals from the classic Crestmore locality in California, USA. While the pieces often appear rather modest in daylight, they display vivid fluorescence under ultraviolet light, including green, yellow, orange and mixed colour responses. The specimens come from different areas of the well-known Crestmore Quarry and represent the characteristic diversity of this historic site, where both carbonate and silicate minerals occur in various parageneses. These samples are excellent for UV demonstrations and provide a vibrant colour spectrum for fluorescence collections of any size.
Geology & origin
Crestmore is one of the classic fluorescence localities in the United States, famous for its complex zones of contact metamorphism where limestones were transformed by intrusive igneous bodies. This geological environment produced an exceptional mineral diversity with many species showing striking fluorescence under UV light. The area near Riverside, California, has long been regarded as an important source of UV-reactive minerals and offers material valued both scientifically and by collectors.
