Chrysocolla, Ray Mine, Arizona, USA – 100 g
This lot contains 100 g of Chrysocolla from the well-known Ray Mine in the U.S. state of Arizona. The pieces display vivid turquoise to emerald-green hues and partly banded structures typical of this hydrated copper mineral. Fractured surfaces often appear matte to silky, while polished sections reveal a striking interplay of color and fine texture.
Geology & Origin
Chrysocolla is a secondary copper mineral formed in the oxidation zone of copper deposits. In the Ray Mine, it commonly occurs together with Malachite, Azurite, Cuprite and native Copper. This deposit in Pinal County, Arizona, is one of the classic localities for vividly colored Chrysocolla and has produced material of outstanding quality for decades, highly valued by collectors and lapidary enthusiasts alike.
