Akaganeite from Richelle, Belgium – micromount as unique piece
This unique specimen shows akaganeite in brown, earthy to partly crystalline aggregates on a dark matrix. The mineral occurs as compact coatings and in some areas reveals its typical acicular structure. The coloration ranges from reddish brown to dark brown and contrasts clearly with the matrix.
The specimen comes from Richelle in Belgium, a classic European locality for iron hydroxide minerals. Akaganeite is a rare iron oxyhydroxide that crystallizes in the tetragonal system. It often forms secondarily in the oxidation zones of iron-rich deposits and is valued by collectors for its characteristic brown tones and rarity.
